The local beaches are 10 minutes drive away at Jonville/Reville. They are sandy with rock pools, fantastic for children and both mussels and oysters are farmed nearby. For enormous, clear sandy beaches, drive to the West coast (45 minutes). St Vaast La Hougue is a picturesque seaside and yachting centre with an attractive shopping area and lively Saturday morning market, some 10 minutes drive from the farmhouse. Barfleur is one of the ‘plus beau villages de France’ and a thriving fishing centre. The area is rich with seafood restaurants and they also make good use of apples, cider and local dairy produce, which is the envy of the world. Caen, Bayeaux, Mont St Michel and Carentan are a good day trip from here and the Normandy landing beaches (Omaha and Utah) are only a few miles away.

You can hire kayaks, wind surfers or dinghies, sand yachts, go horse riding on the beach or play tennis in Quettehou or St Vaast. There is a swimming pool in Quettehou and two very good ones in Cherbourg, including an outdoor water slide. This is a rural location with a quiet pace of life, but St Vaast and Cherbourg offer shops, bars and restaurants for all tastes and pockets.
